COSi FAN TUTTE
 |
A story of true love, temptation and seduction.
The harmonious and perfectly proportioned Cosi fan tutte contains some of Mozart's most appealing music. This light-hearted story of lovers and mistaken identity develops its themes with wit and a sense of bittersweet comedy. | |
This extraordinary opera, both funny and insightful, asks an age-old question: how much can you really trust your lover? A light-hearted wager, seeking to find out the answer to that question, turns out to have earth-shaking consequences for all concerned.
Two young men, boastfully confident of how faithful their fiancees are, accept a wager to test the women's fidelity: each will disguise himself and try to seduce the other man's lover. At first, the women show the resistance expected of them, and it's all very amusing. But subtly and gradually, things begin to change. Whoever wins the wager, can the lives of these lovers ever be the same again?
Produced by the NBR New Zealand Opera in conjunction with Class Act Opera, and brought to you by New Zealand Post, Cosi fan tutte is both a sparklingly tuneful romp and a penetrating look at the games that lovers play. It is brought to New Zealand stages by the vibrant creative team who helped make 2003's The Barber of Seville such a hit.
As a principal sponsor of The NBR New Zealand Opera for the first time, New Zealand Post is proud to help deliver this stunning production to 14 centres around the country in the 2004 New Zealand Post Opera for All Tour. New Zealand Post is a committed supporter of the community and of our country's dynamic arts sector.
