The Marriage of Figaro
Le nozze di Figaro
By Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Libretto by Lorenzo da Ponte, after La folle journée, ou Le mariage de Figaro by Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais
Sung in Italian with English surtitles
Love triumphs in an elaborate marriage game played out in this tantalising new production of Mozart's glorious operatic masterpiece.
Director Colin McColl invigorates this opera classic, setting the action in the glamorous and beautiful world of haute couture - the House of Almaviva - with ravishing contemporary designs inspired by the elegant 18th century.
Stylish and flamboyant, the Almaviva Empire bustles with preparations for the new season's Collection and the imminent nuptials of Figaro and his vivacious fiancée, Susanna. Love and fidelity are tested as the couple scheme to outwit the philandering Count Almaviva's designs on the gorgeous bride. A neglected Countess and an amorous adolescent add to a day of seduction, deception, mischievous ploys and several narrow escapes!
Mozart's sublime score and well-loved melodies combine with colourful characterisations and quicksilver humour to reveal an astute understanding of love, lust and loyalty.
