Privacy Policy

We will only use personal information you have provided to us to send you tickets, information about our productions and performances, other news and information about New Zealand Opera (NZO), and occasional offers from our sponsors and funding partners, via post, phone or by email (the primary purpose). We may also use that information for purposes which are related to the primary purpose, and which you would reasonably expect us to use the information for.

You will only receive email newsletters or promotional material about upcoming events and activities if you have expressly signed up for our eNotes newsletters or updates through our website, by joining the NZ Opera Benefaction programme or by other means where you have given us permission to contact you in this way. We strive to only send email communications to those who want to receive it. You can advise us at any time if you would prefer not to be contacted by us, either by calling 0800 896 737, or by emailing hello@nzopera.co.nz, and you will be removed from our list immediately.

NZO will store personal information securely in electronic and paper form. NZO will take such steps as are reasonable to protect your personal information from unauthorised access or use, misuse, loss, modification or unauthorised disclosure and to ensure that the personal information we hold about you is accurate, complete and up to date. You may request to see or amend any personal information that we hold about you. To do this, please e-mail us at hello@nzopera.co.nz specifying the information or changes that you require.

NZO does not sell, rent or otherwise make available any personal information to third parties without obtaining your consent, unless required to do so by law. NZO outsources certain business functions to other organisations. For this purpose, and only for the purpose of providing services to NZO, personal information may, as required, be transferred to or handled by:

  • Our related companies.
  • Organisations which provide services to us, such as mailing houses, promotion and advertising agencies and consumer research agencies.
  • Credit reference agencies or other credit providers.
  • Government or statutory authorities.

That may directly contact you on behalf of NZO.

NZO may from time to time take audience and performance photos, videos or film for promotional or commercial purposes. NZO reserves the right to record, broadcast and simulcast any performance. If you are photographed, filmed or taped whilst attending an NZO performance, you consent to NZO or third parties appointed by NZO, filming or taping you.

NZ Opera uses Remarketing with Google Analytics to advertise online. Third-party vendors, including Google, show NZO ads on sites across the Internet. NZO and third-party vendors, including Google, use first-party cookies (such as the Google Analytics cookie) and third-party cookies (such as the DoubleClick cookie) together to inform, optimise, and serve ads based on someone’s past visits to your website.

These tools and technologies collect and analyse certain types of non-personal information, including cookies, IP addresses, device and software identifiers, referring and exit URLs, onsite behaviour and usage information, feature use metrics and statistics, usage and purchase history, MAC Address, mobile unique device IF, and other similar information. We use these tools to provide us with information about site usage that enable us to improve the service offered to site visitors, and personalise their experience with NZO.

The third party analytics companies who collect information on our website may combine the information collected with other information they have independently collected from other websites and/or other online or mobile products and services relating to your activities across their network of websites as well as online and/or mobile products and services. Many of these companies collect and use information under their own privacy policies.

Cookies themselves do not contain personal information about you. They simply operate as a unique identifier which helps NZO to know what our customers find interesting and useful on our websites. If you do not want information to be collected by cookies, there is a simple procedure in web browsers which allows you to manually disable the cookie function. If you want to know how to do this, please look at the help menu on your browser. You may opt out of the DoubleClick cookie by visiting the Google advertising opt-out page or you may opt out of Google Analytics by visiting the Google Analytics opt-out page.

You acknowledge and accept that your use of the NZO website and/or NZO’s services indicates your acceptance of NZO’s privacy policy.

If you have a complaint regarding the way in which your personal information is being handled by NZO, please contact us in the first instance. If you are not satisfied with the response that you receive, you may choose to escalate your concern to the Privacy Commissioner. If you would like more information about privacy issues in New Zealand, please visit the Privacy Commissioner’s website.
