Verdi's Macbeth is unique. Not only is it musically and dramatically adventurous, it is arguably the first opera that stayed true to Shakespeare's original work. The result is one of the most remarkable combinations of great drama and great music ever created.
Rousing choruses, familiar arias and a power surge of emotion - the ferocious couple "trusting in the prophesies of hell" will have you captivated from the moment the lights go down.
In this Opera North production direct from the UK, baritone Michele Kalmandi sings Macbeth with Italian soprano Antonia Cifrone as his Lady. NZ-born bass Jud Arthur sings Banquo and we welcome the return of Roman Shulackoff as Macduff, who last joined us in the role of Lensky for our 2009 season of Eugene Onegin. This jaw dropping production is brought to the stage by internationally acclaimed director, Tim Albery and conducted by Guido Ajmone-Marsan.
Double, double, toil and trouble ... the perfect mix for a director's cauldron. Don't miss it.
