The NZI Winter Season of Don Giovanni June/July 2005 Dangerous but polished DonReviewed by: John Button, The Dominion Post, 27.06.05 This production of Mozart's 1878 opera is the Los Angeles production from 1990, when it was directed by Jonathan Miller. Director Stanley Garner's approach is clearly one of personal non-intervention and a loyalty to Miller's original approach. This is a laudable philosophy, but carries some dangers. It is an impressive, polished production, but at important moments one felt a lack of a strong director's hand.
