New Zealand Opera is delighted to announce the appointment of Shona Roberts as Director Artistic Operations for the Company. She will begin her new role on 6 May, which is also the first day of rehearsals for The Barber of Seville.
Shona’s new role will see her work closely with General Director Thomas de Mallet Burgess as creative producer, tasked with the delivery of NZO’s artistic activity and oversight of the artistic planning team which includes both the technical team and artistic administration staff.
Thomas de Mallet Burgess says Shona’s experience and relationships across the arts community will be of great value to the Company.
“I’m thrilled to have someone of Shona’s stature joining our team as we prepare to stage The Barber of Seville and The Turn of The Screw, and work towards revealing our exciting plans for opera in Aotearoa later this year.”
An arts and events manager with over 25 years’ experience, Roberts has worked across the industry in areas including general management, programming and producing, financial and business roles and venue management. She joins New Zealand Opera from Auckland Arts Festival where she has been Business and Finance Director since 2005.
“I’m very excited about joining New Zealand Opera and working with the talented team there,” says Roberts.
“The new challenge will bring together the various threads of my experience.”
