Welcome to The Supper Club, where fine food is complemented by exceptional music and where people with a passion for supporting the arts in New Zealand can meet and mingle in a relaxed, convivial environment.

Created in association with Mollies small luxury hotel in Auckland and Logan Brown restaurant in Wellington The Supper Club offers an appetizing new way for you or your business to sponsor the opera.

As a member, you'll receive an invitation to two exclusive supper events at either Mollies or Logan Brown to coincide with our 2010 productions. You'll enjoy memorable food, special guest appearances and exclusive preview performances from soloists in our forthcoming operas. And you'll have the chance to meet other opera enthusiasts - including national arts businesses, patrons and supporters.

You'll also receive tickets to attend each mainstage production, including a pre-opera introduction from General Director Aidan Lang and a post-show backstage tour, plus invitations to attend a further three exclusive events, which include lunch with Mayors John Banks or Kerry Prendergast and cocktail functions at private homes and/or Embassies.

Of course The Supper Club offers more than just the privileges afforded by club membership. Opera is the most expensive art form in the world to stage. And, in order to give New Zealanders the opportunity to experience world-class opera right here at home, we need to be able to continue training and attracting the most accomplished opera performers. NZO employs 100 or more singers every year. Your support will directly assist us as we introduce opera to new generations of New Zealanders, nurture talented young voices, and bring you performances of the highest international standard.

Annual membership to The Supper Club is $2,500

Did you know?

An English translation of the opera is projected on surtitles above the stage during our performances.

Early opera resembled the atmosphere of a race course - chatting, food, laughter and loud comments were the norm.

If you are 25 years old or under you can purchase $25 tickets at the venue box office before any performance.

The world's longest opera is Wagner's The Ring Cycle, lasting over 14 hours plus intervals. That's 18 hours at the theatre.

The world's longest applause lasted for 1 hour and 20 minutes as a standing ovation. The opera: Otello starring Placido Domingo.

On average, an opera will last between 2 and 3 hours, with one interval in a two act show, and two in a three act show. Operettas and musicals tend to be shorter.

NZO has launched an Opera Social Club - no joining fees, no club membership, everyone is welcome.
